all houses are haunted...

this is the eleventh

of a series of poems by nooshin azadi

derived from drawings by rhoda penmarq

.

all houses are haunted
by the memories
of the souls once living in them
by the words
spoken in each chamber
by the footfalls
shared with each step

i hear them all
each time i pass by
a house

these sounds
these voices
can dry up the plants
or make a barren tree bear fruit

these sounds
these voices
can brighten up the stars
or turn the sun into a black hole

these sounds
these voices
can make you pause to listen
or cause you to hurry on to forget

all houses are haunted
by the memories
of the souls once living in them
by the words
spoken in each chamber
by the footfalls
shared with each step

i hear them all
as i carry this small house
in my chest

find me along a path
with thriving trees
and shining stars

then will you stop
to listen
to my pounding house?

.

I hear them too and the house within the house. Lovely rendered, you.
