"i am sorry to have disturbed you, sir. i do not know what i was thinking."

jean-louis had fallen asleep with his eyes open in the silence that had fallen between himself and leonie.

he had put his teacup down but almost knocked it over when she spoke.

fortunately the cup was empty.

there was a half-eaten blueberry scone on a plate beside the teacup.

it took him a few seconds to remember where he was.

happy to finally be checked into their hotel room, celeste flung herself down on one of the beds.

"you slept most of the time on the train," albertine gently chided her. "are you going to fall asleep right away here?"

"what else is there to do?"

"there is a little cafe around the corner. their wine is not too bad."
