fair

by horace p sternwall

with a satisfied air
i went to the county fair
people stopped and stared
but i only wanted my share

i say, let tempers flare
i was being debonair
because i did not have a care
and my attitude is my own affair

the strong man asked me for a nickel
and i gave the bearded lady a dime
i said howdy to the sheriff
and he gave me a hard time

roll on, lazy river
roll on, roll along
i remember my old dog henry
but forget the words to my song
