pilgrim

by bofa xesjum

life is a highway

the exit is the exit

the girl believes in love

night is the exit

love is in the street

the night tells a joke

the car turns on to the highway

the car passes another car

the street comes to life.

a cloud floats over the door

it starts to rain as omar comes out the door

the rain came from the cloud

the rain means death

i forgot about that

jailhouse blues

by horace p sternwall

down in the boondocks
out in the yard
amanda had a billy goat
billy had a pard

the pard’s name was jesse
he robbed the mail
he told the same jokes every night
but they never got stale

i wish i was back there
instead of in this cell
eve climbed the apple tree
but poor adam fell

i have never seen a country road
a possum, or a bear
but i have these dreams so curious
that i feel compelled to share

omar was a sultan
as wide as he was wise
salome danced the hoochie koo
as herod rolled his eyes

the moon is a rattlesnake
the sun never comes up
i wish i had a pillow
and some whiskey in my cup

the world is not an apple pie
not that i have found
i would tell the sheriff my sad tale
but he never comes around

moonbeams

by dog e relaford

herbert had a holler
jonah had a whale
they met behind the barn
to hatch a plot that could not fail

the sheriff got wind of it
and got on the case
he put on his stetson hat
and his game face

sheriff jack brown
you may have heard of him
his best gal had left him
and his future looked dim

he was born under a bad sign
and cursed from birth
here was his chance
to prove his true worth

the mayor rolled over
with his pllow under his head
they surrounded the farmhouse
but the rascals had fled

the picture gets fuzzy
as the world spins around
the sun came up
and found the sheriff on the ground

herbert had a dinosaur
jonah had a plan
they escaped to devils island
after sticking it to the man

the seagulls are flying
to meet the new day
mothers love moonbeams
and crime does not pay

george and henry

by dog e relaford

george had a nickel
henry had a dime
they got together
and had a good time

lulu was a waitress
they gave her a tip
she told them to wait outside
and gave them the slip

george laughed it off
but henry took it hard
now he sleeps beneath the moon
like a dog in a yard

lulu bought a castle
high on a hill
down in argentina
or maybe it was brazil

goodbye henry

by timothy t jones

they came to say goodbye to henry.

it was the thing to do.

it was a nice day.

with a few clouds in the sky.

everything went smoothly.

nobody had much to say.

mostly they just nodded.

eventually it was over.

until the next time.

whatever that means.

if anything.

goodbye, henry.

nothing bad will ever happen to me

by bofa xesjum

nothing bad will ever happen to me
because i am a good person
and i just want to live my life
down by the old mill stream

columbus discovered america
and rode the rails with buffalo bill
but i just want to be me
as the rain falls on the leaves

people are basically good inside
in my opinion
and just want to live their lives
and not cause any trouble

where the buffao roam
and grandpa smokes his pipe
out on the porch in the rain
because he just wants to live his life

a dog runs down the street
but nobody follows him
the river runs to the sea
when johnny comes marching home

nothing bad will ever happen to me
in the misty moonlight
i just want to be myself
when the night says goodbye to irene

sherman marched through georgia
but i only march to the refrigerator
to get some ice for my drink
down by the old mill stream

the wolf howls at the moon
because he just wants to live his life
old number 9 comes around the bend
sweet dreams
