alexander harrison iii

by nick nelson

alexander harrison iii was a bad person, and for a long time he had considered destroying the earth, and the universe, just for fun.

alexander lived in a house with a thousand rooms, on top of a high hill, on an island in a vast ocean he had inherited from his grandfather.

on the bottom of the north side of the hill was a village of happy peasants who got up in the morning and went to bed at night after cheerfully performing their allotted tasks.

on the bottom of the east side of the hill were a monastery and a convent whose inhabitants prayed all day and much of the night, mostly for alexander’s continued prosperity and happiness.

on the bottom of the east side of the hill was a great university, where world renowned scholars explored the secrets of the universe.

and on the bottom of the south side of the hill was a huge plantation, where thousands of slaves toiled in the noonday sun, growing and picking tobacco, opium and other drugs , whose sale formed the basis of alexander’s infinite wealth.

the house on the hill had a staff of hundreds of servants, and contained the offices of alexander’s private army, navy, air force, and security service.

the army, navy and air force guarded the perimeter and beaches of the island, and the security force was scattered as need be in the house and around the island

one day a stranger appeared in a little boat on the horizon, and he was picked up and brought before alexander.

why are you here? alexander politely enquired of the stranger.

no particular reason, the stranger replied. i was just in the vicinity, and decided to drop by and say hello.

what do you do? alexander asked.

my own thing.

that is not a very original answer.

the stranger just smiled.

would you like a cup of coffee? alexander asked him. or tea, or something stronger?

coffee will do, the stranger said. a little cream, no sugar.

alexander nodded to the maid, who promptly brought the stranger a cup of coffee with poison in it, which disposed of him instantly.

the stranger’s body was taken away, but alexander remained in a restless mood for the rest of the day.

outside, it started to rain.

more and more, alexander’s thoughts returned to the destruction of the universe, which he had not asked to be born in.
