st peter watched the sun come up over the hill
a river flowed under the hill
guarded by a lion
who was not as young as he used to be
st peter and the lion went back a long way
st peter had been thrown to the lion back in the day
when the emperor nero was in his glory
when st peter and the lion talked about the old days with nero
st peter was inclined to give nero a pass
he was not such a bad fellow, he insisted to the lion when they settled down to a tankard of ale at the nearest inn
a bit impetuous, maybe, the lion replied tentatively
he was young, st peter said
just as we all were once, the lion agreed
judas iscariot , sitting in a corner with the wandering jew , overheard the conversation
everybody gets forgiven eventually, judas observed.
it just takes time.
waiter, another tankard!
