a bird flew out a window
and landed in a tree
it sang for everybody
but not for me

a snake crawled from behind a rock
and stretched out on the lawn
i asked it what its name was
but suddenly it was gone

adam knocked upon my door
to sell me a vacuum cleaner
but i declined politely
and did not care for his demeanor

i saw eve on the corner
selling apples by the pound
her legs were long and slender
and her face was round

i bet the devil a dollar
that he could not guess my name
but he stroked his curling mustache
and said, i don’t play that game

i saw the buddha in mcdonalds
many years ago
i bought a strawberry smoothie
and walked home in the snow
