alice jones had brittle bones
and a cat named stagger lee

lived in the woods nearby
he kept his bonds and stocks hid under a rock

a lone gun called the rising sun
had alice and stan in his sights
but he loved a girl called princess pearl
and she kept him awake at night
ling see hop keeps a little shop
with laundry written on its sign
but what is sold when the night grows cold
is nothing so benign
down by the river the prophets shiver
and huddle together to keep warm
but their dreams collective are not selective
and bid ill for the human swarm
i wrote a letter to my elders and betters
to outline the coming disaster
but they pay no heed in this hour of need
because jack is as good as his master
