poem 111

by dog e relaford

adam was a body that took up space
betty was a charmer with a pretty face
chuck was a dreamer with a wandering mind
doris was an enemy to all malekind

eddie was a follower of the light
flora was golden when she started a fight
george was a heavyweight fraud
hester was intensely determined to be odd

iggy was a joker but was crying inside
jenny had karma, and let everything slide
kenny learned his lessons punctually
lola had a mission to set the world free

mickey was a nobody, because he just was
nellie was oblivious to gossip and buzz
oscar was a person with a preconceived plan
peggy was quick to pounce on any misspeaking man

quentin was a righteous philosopher
ruby was satisfied with what was right for her
sam got tipsy every afternoon
trixie had an uncle who promised her the moon

uncle joe took vitamins for his condition
vicki was a witch, and played footsie with perdition
walter had excuses for everything he did
except his youthful misadventures, which he carefully hid

you will never know what hits you when the meter hits zero
everyone pretends to want to be a hero
they will all see the truth, on saint bartholomew’s day
when the circus comes to town, and the dogs run away
