after the ball was over
the lights were turned off
the chickens came home to roost
and a stranger appeared
he was a strange man
who kept his own counsel
and his own accounts
and his own secrets
he had a faithful servant
who wore an old school tie
and a purple sash and a black mustache
and carried two pistols in his belt
a woman in a white dress waited
in the pale moonlight
beside the fountain
for the strange man
but the servant appeared
instead
carrying a blue suitcase
which he placed on the green grass
beside the fountain
which was filled with dead leaves
in the pale moonlight
as a faint breeze stirred the strees
take this suitcase to baku
the servant intoned
in a melancholy voice
and deliver it personally to the saint
do not open it
on any account
and with a last glance at the pale moon
the servant retreated to the shadows
here the story ends
rather abruptly
the breeze blew the dead leaves
from the fountain
the pale moon
disappeared behind a cloud
as did the woman in the white dress
the strange man
the servant with the purple sash and the black mustache
the chickens who went home to roost
the saint
and the suitcase
