one bullet

by nick nelson

he rode to the top of the hill.

his horse was tired.

he was tired.

he had one bullet left.

for the horse?

for himself?

or for the man who done him wrong?

the man got off the horse.

and started walking down the hill.

he met a hungry lion.

you better shoot me, said the lion, or i will eat you.

but he only had one bullet.

he kept walking down the hill.

he met a rattlesnake.

you better shoot me, said the rattlesnake, or i will bite you and you will die a painful death..

but he only had one bullet.

he kept walking down the hill.

he met a little child playing in the mud.

you better shoot me, said the child, or i will throw mud at you and get it all over your nice white hat.

what could he do?

he drew his gun, the child turned into a bird and flew away, the hungry lion growled, the rattlesnake hissed, and the horse ran away down the street as thousands cheered.
